How to Ship Directly to Amazon FBA

After doing product research, finding a winning product, and working with a supplier to create a private label product, Fulfillment-by-Amazon (FBA) sellers have the option to ship their products straight to Amazon’s warehouses from their supplier or to ship them to another location first, before they go to Amazon.

Why wouldn’t sellers have their suppliers send their inventory straight to Amazon? Some sellers like to inspect the products themselves, only send a limited quantity of stock to Amazon at a time to control FBA storage costs, or any number of other reasons.

Sellers who go this route need to know how to get their products to Amazon’s warehouses when they’re ready. So, how do you set up an FBA shipment to get your inventory into an Amazon warehouse?

For a brand new Amazon seller, navigating Seller Central and setting up your first FBA shipment can be a difficult task. I’ll go over every step of how to set your FBA shipment up correctly — using both old and new methods.

Shipping to Amazon’s warehouses: The old way vs. the new way

Recently, Amazon introduced a new update to “Send to Amazon,” which is a three-step shipment creation workflow to set up your FBA shipments.

Let’s go over both methods for creating a shipment. If you sell retail arbitrage, private label, or wholesale, you’ll need to know how to do it.

Step by Step: Sending your FBA inventory to Amazon

Setting up your first shipment can be confusing at first, but once you do it a couple of times, you’ll be a pro.

This step-by-step guide will cover the original method of setting up a shipment.

Step 1

In Seller Central, go to “Manage Inventory” and find your listing.

Step 2

On the right-hand side, choose the drop-down menu that reads “Edit” and click “Send/Replenish Inventory.”

Step 3

In this step, you will need to enter your “Ship from address” if you haven’t done so already. If you have the inventory at your house or business, enter that address.

Then you’ll need to choose between “Individual products” or “Case-packed products”.

Select “Individual products” if your shipment consists of multiple products with different SKUs or different conditions (new, used).

For example, you’d choose this option if you are selling retail arbitrage and want to ship 10 different products to Amazon at the same time.

Select “Case-packed products” if your shipment consists of one SKU. You will then be able to enter the number of cases and units per case for each SKU in the shipment.

For example, you’d choose this option if you are shipping in multiple units of your private label product.

Click “Continue to shipping plan.”

View an example of the “Case-packed product” option below:

Step 4

On this screen, you’ll enter how many units of your product are in one case and how many cases you’re shipping. In this example, I’m going to ship 50 units total. I can only fit 25 units in each case, so I’ll choose 2 as the number of cases.

Under “Total Units” below, you can see we’re shipping 50.

After you enter in the number of units per case and number of cases, click Continue.

Step 5

In this step, you’ll need to choose whether or not your products need to be prepped before shipping to Amazon. This could mean it needs to be placed in a poly bag, labeled, or bubble-wrapped.

You will select the type of product from a drop down menu. As an example, I will choose “baby products.”

Amazon will let you know here what type of prep your type of product requires. If your product doesn’t fall under one of the categories shown in the drop-down menu, then you won’t need to prep.

Now, if you don’t have the supplies or materials you need to prep your products, you can have Amazon prep your products for a fee. The fee will range from $1.00 to $2.30 per unit depending on the type of prep your product requires.

Step 6

Your next step is to choose how your products are labeled. If your products require an Amazon (FNSKU) barcode, then you can choose to apply them yourself or have Amazon apply them for you.

If you choose to label the items yourself, enter the number of labels to print and click “Print labels for this page.” You can use address label sheets to peel and stick the FNSKU barcodes onto each item.

In certain circumstances, you may need to use the manufacturer barcode. This may be the case if you are selling retail arbitrage items or wholesale items that already have a barcode on the packaging.

If your FNSKU begins with “X00,” you will need to label your products using the Amazon barcode, aka the FNSKU.

For FNSKUs beginning with “B00,” use existing manufacturer barcodes.

You will be able to see your FNSKU under “Product Name” in this section.

If you are reselling items via retail arbitrage, you still may need to use the Amazon (FNSKU) barcode instead of the manufacturer barcode, though I suggest you always use the FNSKU.

Note: You can change your FBA Product Barcode Preference to either the Amazon barcode or Manufacturer barcode. In the top right corner of Seller Central go to Settings > Fulfillment by Amazon > FBA Product Barcode Preference.

If you are selling a private label product and have your supplier print your FNSKU barcode onto your packaging, then choose Merchant for this section.

Alternatively, if you do not want to label the products yourself, you can also have Amazon label the product for you for $0.55 per unit.

Step 7

This is where you’ll find out where Amazon wants you to send your inventory.

Amazon decides where your products are sent based on demand across the country. By default, your inbound shipment settings are on “Distributed Inventory Placement,” which means that Amazon may split your shipment up to be sent to different fulfillment centers. This can be a frustrating situation, especially if your products are already packed and ready to ship.

For example, Amazon may want to send 30 units to a warehouse in New Jersey, 15 units to a warehouse in Texas, and the remaining 5 units to a warehouse in California.

But what if you don’t want to break up your shipment? You can change your FBA shipment settings in Seller Central to send all of your units to one warehouse.

You can choose “Inventory Placement Service,” which allows quantities of a single seller SKU to be assigned to a single fulfillment center. Note that if you use this option, you’ll be charged a per-unit fee. For products weighing less than 1 pound, it costs $0.30 per unit, and items over 1 pound costs $0.40 per unit.

To change these settings go to “Settings” > “Fulfillment by Amazon” > “Inbound Settings,” and then edit.

For this example, Amazon is telling me I am sending all 50 units to ABE8 (an Amazon warehouse in New Jersey) — my shipment won’t be broken up. So I’ll choose “Approve & continue,” then “Work on shipment”.

Step 8

In this last step, you’ll choose your shipping service and how your items will be packed. After you enter your package dimensions and weight, Amazon will give you your price and you will be ready to ship!

Since this is a small shipment, I’m choosing “Small parcel delivery” and “Amazon-partnered carrier”. You can choose “Less than truckload (LTL)” if you will be shipping pallets into Amazon.

In the next section you’ll enter the units per box, how many boxes you are shipping, the dimensions, and the weight.

After you enter in that information, you can click “calculate” and Amazon will give you the shipping cost. You can then choose to accept charges and print your shipping labels.

Lastly, choose your ship date (the date you plan to ship the boxes) and print your labels! You will see two barcodes on the label. Make sure both of the barcodes are visible on each box. One barcode is for UPS, the other is for Amazon.

Once you have completed these steps, click “Complete shipment.”

That’s it! Now you can label your boxes and drop off at your nearest UPS location. You can also schedule a UPS pickup from your house if you cannot drop them off.

Create an FBA shipment using “Send to Amazon”

Now that we have reviewed the original method of creating your FBA shipment, let’s discuss the new workflow system Amazon has introduced, called “Send to Amazon.”

We’ll start off the same way as the previous steps, but instead will choose “Continue to Send to Amazon.” You can also click Send to Amazon above.

Step 1

The first thing you need to do in Send to Amazon is to choose the inventory you want to ship to Amazon. Each of your products that has an FBA SKU will be listed..

Next, choose the number of units you want to send. Once that is entered, click Ready to Send, then Confirm and continue.

Step 2

Confirm your shipping information and accept the charges.

Step 3

Print your labels and ship! Once you print your shipping labels, again, make sure both barcodes are visible on the outside of your box. Then simply drop off your package at UPS or schedule a UPS pickup.

That’s it! You should now be ready to set up your first FBA shipment like a pro! If you have any other questions regarding FBA shipments or have anything else you want us to write about, let us know in the comments!

  1. Hi Brian
I am private label sending my first product to Amazon. I have my products coming from Latin America to the USA . My provider agrees to send them directly to Amazon. Since the products goes to customs once arrive the USA… Will amazon receive them? or Do I have to receive them and then send them to Amazon ?

    thanks again

  2. What is the minimum items required that Amazon will accept? For example can I shipped 15 items (5small 5medium 5large) or it has to be more than that? Also does the shipment have to be all same size items in one shipment and the different size in different shipment or all 15 items in same shipment?

    1. Hi Ivy,

You can send any amount to Amazon; there is no minimum. You can choose to mix the items in your shipment, you will be able to specify that when creating the shipment in Seller Central.

  3. Hello. I am planning to subscribe for Suite JungleScout plan. Just recently finished watching your video about for beginners. You are mentioning that we will need freight forwarder. I am based in United Kingdom. Just checked freightos quotes for 1m3 30kg package and to ship it by air it is just ridiculiuosly expensive. Can’t a supplier just send by air using DDP method directly to Amazon? Or manufacturers/supplier probably not gonna do it? Or is it better to ask supplier to send package to my home address and then to send to Amazon myself. This is the part where I got confused. Maybe I am missing a point here. Thank you for your answer.

    1. Hi Tomas,

If you have a smaller shipment, it will likely be cheaper to have the supplier air ship to your location first and then you can ship the products to Amazon. Ask your supplier if they are able to arrange your shipment to Amazon instead.

      1. Hi,

Any idea why my products are available for Prime Delivery in 7-10 days with a Professional account instead of Prime same day or next day delivery?

        1. Hi Natalie,

It could be because your inventory is being transferred to other fulfillment centers. Once your inventory is fully checked in, it will show as 1-2 days.

  4. Hi Brian,

If I’m trying to send in a pallet of sports drinks (in original packaging not boxes) that are already stacked and shrink wrapped. Do I need to cut off the wrap and place the sports drinks into boxes? When following this guide to sending product into amazon it asks for how many cases or boxes, however I was wondering if there was anyway to send the product in as is on the pallet wrapped and labeled?

    Thanks,
    Josh

    1. Hi Josh, it depends on how many drinks will be sold in one order. Are you selling them individually? If so, they’ll need to be taken out of the original packaging and packed loose into another shipping box.

You can send pallets to Amazon but you still need to specify how many units are in each case.

  5. Hello Sir your information.was very usefull
I have a question that in online Arbitrage when we send our products to prep center in amazon listing we give the prep center adress or the company that we buy our product if we give the company adress how we can send our products from prep center to amazon?

    1. HI Ahmad,

You will send have the products shipped to a prep center from wherever you order them from. They will process and pack your items and then ship them to an Amazon warehouse for you.

  6. Hi There,

Would you mind answering the following questions as i can’t find the answers online?
-Do I list the product and then arrange shipment or wait for amazon to receive the shipment and then list the products?
-Does wholesalers and companies like ali express provide SKU , ASIN numbers?

I look forward to your response

    1. Hi Ella,

You will first list the product on Amazon, choose FBA as the fulfillment method, then arrange shipment. You cannot arrange shipment without first creating the listing.

No, you can make up your own SKU (or leave it blank in Amazon Seller Central, and Amazon will assign your product an ASIN.

  7. Hello, thanks a lot for a super helpful article.

This will be our first time shipping to Amazon so I just want to make sure I understand the process. First, the warehouse ships the items to my home address through a carrier through Alibaba, this can be UPS, Fedex or something else. Once the shipment arrives at my house, I need to make sure it conforms to Amazon FBA requirements (box dimensions, number of items, barcode placement, etc)? Or is that something that Amazon will do for me? If I need to do that myself, how can I do that? Then, I follow the steps in this article to get my shipments from my house to Amazon FBA warehouse. Is that a correct summary of the process?

    Thanks in advance.

    1. Hi,

Yes, that is correct! For a cost, you can have Amazon place product labels on each unit. You can do it yourself by printing out the FNSKU labels in the shipment creation process.

  8. Brian. Thank you for helping me make my first FBA shipment. I was nervous before I found this article. It was so easy and I wish I would have done it months ago. 🙂

  9. Can one deliver the product to Amazon themselves if the destination warehouse is nearby, or must be through a service provider such as UPS?

  10. Your replies to questions and the article helped a lot. What would be the best way to send a custom made gift box with multiple items inside. If I can’t drop off these custom boxes to my closest fulfillment center, do they ever change the location of the assigned FC destination? Also, do they use another amazon cardboard box to do their shipment to customers or am I responsible for buying and wrapping in Amazon boxes to

    1. Hi John,

Pack as many gift boxes as possible in one shipping box. Say you can fit 10 units per box. When you create a shipment in Seller Central, enter the case pack and how many cases you are sending. Then Amazon will assign you the fulfillment centers to ship your inventory to. After you enter the quantity, dimensions, and weight, you pay for shipping and print out the shipping labels.

  11. I’m a little confused about the order of things. Should I purchase UPC codes for a private label product so I can add a product to inventory? Or do I need to purchase the product from my supplier first? I guess I’m confused about what comes first. 1. Purchase UPC codes. 2. Add inventory 3. Purchase from supplier. 4. Send products to FBA center on Amazon seller central. Please help!

    1. Hi Erika,

You can purchase the UPC and create your listing if you are 100% certain of your supplier and the inventory being purchased. Before creating your listing and FBA shipment, you must have the UPC first to create the actual listing in Seller Central.

These things can be done simultaneously.

You don’t add inventory before you have the inventory. If you are sending an FBA shipment, you enter the quantity being sent. Once Amazon receives it, it will show the available quantity in your manage inventory.

  12. Hello! I am planning to sell an existing product on Amazon but I need some clarification on using FBA. What should be my first step after I decide what product I’m selling? Should I create an Amazon seller account first or should I contact a supplier to purchase the item I will be selling?

I would also like to know if it’s best to let my supplier ship my product directly to an Amazon fulfilment centre or to my address? Also, do I need an LLC or re-seller permit to buy wholesale and to resell on Amazon.
    Thank you

    1. Hi,

I suggest creating your seller account sooner than later. It can take a couple of weeks to get approved. After that, you can start contacting suppliers but before purchasing, make sure your Amazon account is open and verified by Amazon.

You do not need an LLC to sell on Amazon but if you are purchasing goods at a wholesale cost from brands or wholesalers, you will need one as well as a resellers permit. If you purchase from a supplier or manufacturer on Alibaba, you do not need one.

  13. Hello and thank you for all your information. My name is Benedick Sejour. I am writing from Haiti. My question is, if I’m buying from Alibaba or from any other manufacturing company to sell on Amazon, how will Alibaba or any other manufacturing company know which address to ship the items to to reach Amazon? will Amazon provide me with an address upon creating a sellers account? to provide to Alibaba or any other manufacturing company?

    1. Hi,

I suggest working with a freight forwarder who can help get your products from your supplier to an Amazon fulfillment center.

    1. Hi Joshua,

What questions do you have? We have lots of free content on our blog and YouTube channel to help you get started.

  14. Do I have to create a website to sell on Amazon fba? Im seriously committed to this and I need a little bit of help. I have my product in mind and ready for purchase and transfer, yet to start my Amazon fba account.

    1. Hi Joshua,

No, you do not need to have your own website to sell on Amazon. You need to create a seller account only. I suggest starting that process ASAP because it takes some time to verify.

  15. So, just to make sure i understand. Fairly new to this whole process, For example, if i purchase product from lets say costco online or another bulk store can i ship directly to an amazon warehouse for FBA selling? Cutting out the middle man process entirely? saving on repeat shipping costs and what not? it seems you explained it briefly but i just wanted to clarify if i misunderstood if possible. Thank you for your time

    1. Hi Shaun,

No, you cannot do that. Not from a retailer, at least. If you purchase bulk products from a distributor or wholesaler, you can see if they would be able to send the products directly to Amazon’s warehouse instead of your location first. You would need to create a shipment within Seller Central using their address and send them the label.

  16. When should i add a product to my inventory, after i have purchased it? Not sure what i should do after i buy from the supplier.

    1. You should create your listing on Amazon when you order products from your supplier. You really should do it before you order so you can provide your supplier with your FNSKU barcode so they can print it on your product packaging.

  17. Thanks for the detailed article.

I have heard that the location of prep center is also important. That video was about a prep center in Texas and they said their packages take less time in processing because an Amazon fulfillment center is not far from their place.
On the other hand, the packages from sales tax free Montana will take longer.

Is this true and should we consider this while choosing a prep center?

    1. Hi,

Yes, the location is also important for those reasons you mentioned. The closer you are to a fulfillment center, the cheaper the shipping and the faster the processing time. That alone may be worth more than saving money on sales tax.

  18. How can we replenish inventory from Pakistan.. Like we want to sell our products in UK..
Are there any Amazon carrier partners in Pakistan to deliver item in UK Amazon Warehouse.

  19. Hi, How do I change the shipping from LTL to Small parcel delivery in the new ‘ send to Amazon’ feature.

Please help as my shipment is nearly there and the shipping company only just told me the boxes did not require LTL so are not on pallets but are being delivered in carton boxes.

    Appreciate the help,

    Thanks

  20. Hello, I want to ask about I have normal customer amazon account but I want to start sell something can I change my customer account into seller account or must I open new seller account? Thank you for your answer in advance.

  21. I sent some items to amazon by fba
    Items is in shipment process
But i cannot pay these item yet
When i pay these selected items

    1. Hi Asif,

I’m not sure what you mean. You need to wait for the items to be processed before they go live for sale on Amazon.

  22. Hello. I’m new to Amazon FBA. If I have to buy the product from my supplier before I know what warehouse to send to, how do I make sure my supplier doesn’t ship off my supplies to my actual home or anywhere else? I’m not sure what I’m supposed to tell them.

    1. Hi Tayah,

You need to be clear with them where to send your products. If you don’t want the products sent to your home, don’t give them that address. I also suggest working with a freight forwarder as they can help you get your products from your supplier to an Amazon fulfillment center.

  23. How do I set up shipping from my supplier in China to a Amazon fulfillment center? is it the same process except I put the suppliers address? The supplier asked where are we sending the product but I dont have an address for an Amazon fulfillment center. Im confused on how to get that address.

    1. Hi,

I suggest using a freight forwarder to help the process of getting your products from China to an FBA center.

  24. My question is : If I got at least $500 to $1000 to start off. What is the proper steps to buying from one website and shipping directly to FBA account

    1. Hi Ernest,

Do you mean through online arbitrage or with a private label product? With online arbitrage, you will need to either have the items sent to you first to prep or you can use an Amazon prep center to prep and package your FBA items.

  25. Hello, If I reside in Lebanon, and I sell online arbitrage, how to ship my products from a marketplace in the U.S (Like Home Depot,ebay..) directly to amazon fulfilment centers?what is the process?

    1. Hi Peter,

You cannot ship products from another retailer to an Amazon fulfillment center. What you can do is use a third-party Amazon FBA prep center to receive your online arbitrage orders and prep/ship them to Amazon for you. I suggest searching for some companies on Google.

  26. What are the steps for sending directly from the merchants the products are purchased from? How do I set up shipping if I am doing only online arbitrage? Thank you in advance.

    1. Hi Kelly,

It sounds like you are talking about drop shipping. Do not ship orders from another retailer to your customer. That is a fast way to get suspended. If you are doing retail arbitrage, purchase the items beforehand and ship from your location or send the products into FBA.

  27. Hello.

Looking for some tips here. I will be selling two different items together as a pair/kit. Each item comes from different manufacturers and locations. I have to physically pick up the goods, separate them and sort through them and package them together. One item has the same sku and the other item has different sku’s because they differ in sizes. My question is, is it possible to send the 2 items separately to Amazon and have Amazon package the 2 different item together as one whenever someone places an order? Not sure if I am explaining myself good enough here This would save me an incredible amount of time, money, travel and work.

    1. Hi Mario,

Unfortunately, no. Amazon will not package the items together for you. If you want the items to ship together, you need to package them together before sending to FBA. Alternatively, you can use a third-party prep center to package the goods for you — at a cost of course. Search for Amazon prep centers to see if they can help you.

      Brian

    2. There is the “virtual bundle”, where a new listing is created that allows the customer to buy two or more of your products together at the same time. They may arrive separately if they are at different fulfilment centers, though.

  28. Hi!

I am a Non US resident newly registered on Amazon Seller Central (USA) and would like to start with Amazon Online arbitrage (FBA) in US . Is it possible?
If so, can you guide me step by step, especially how to get the products delivered to Amazon warehouse from the Retailors like Wallmart etc.

  29. I’ve sent my product to Amazon, which were received on Feb 9 and they are STILL showing as “unavailable”. How long does Amazon take to receive the product and make it available to the public?

    1. HI Alejandro,

That is normal. It can take a couple of weeks for Amazon to fully receive your shipment. If your shipment was fully received, maybe there is an issue with your listing? It is closed? Or inactive? Can you see the amount of available inventory in your seller account?

  30. Hi Brian,

I am new to Amazon , doing FBA wholesale in US. after approving by a wholesaler i was going to buy products and send to Amazon warehouse but the wholesaler said “Items will be shipped to the shipping location you have on file. Any prep work to sell on Amazon will be handled by your team”. in the file i have my home address so please help me how do i send products to Amazon warehouse?
    waiting for the answer.
    thanks

  31. Thank you for your information about How to Ship Directly to Amazon FBA. This information is very useful to students and people. Amazon platform provides good services.

  32. What’s the way to get your items boxed up? I know UPS offers a boxing service but it can be expensive. Does/can Amazon supply boxes/boxing to ship to Amazon?

    1. Hi Tiffany,

You can hire a third-party prep center to package and label items for you. Search for prep center for Amazon sellers on Google and a few should come up.

  33. You have an excellent blog here. These days, finding high-quality stuff like yours is getting increasingly difficult. People like you are important to us.

  34. How do I ship branded and packaged superfoods such as Mucuna Pruriens Powder, Hibiscus Flowers, Turmeric Powder, etc to Amazon warehouse from Nigeria? Would appreciate your sincere response.

    1. HI Ernest,

I suggest searching for a freight forwarding company that can help ship your products internationally and get them to an Amazon fulfillment center.

  35. Hello, thanks for the article! Do you have experience on the Canadian Side for LTL shipments. Amazon says the carrier needs to login to the portal to make a delivery appointment but I can’t seem to figure out who is a carrier that as this portal account. Any advice? Thank you for your time!

  36. Hi Brian,

Can you explain me how y can send mixed ASINs to the same FBA. I want send 1 pallet with differents ASINS to the same FBA but Amazon shipping plan inform two differents FBA for the same shipping.

    Thanks and regards!

    1. Hi Barbara,

If you go into your settings in Seller Central (top right) and click on Fulfillment by Amazon. Then go to Inbound Settings and enable Inventory Placement Service. This should help, though it states it will send all quantities of a single SKU, not multiple SKUs but you can try to see if it will work.

    1. Hi Bharat,

I am not sure what you mean. From which store? If you purchase items from a store to resell on Amazon, you will need to package the items yourself and send them to an Amazon fulfillment center.

  37. I have a follow-up question. After you ship the FBA inventory to Amazon. Will your items automatically be launched for sale? I shipped my items out about a week ago and now I’m just refreshing the seller app wondering if I have to do anything else.

    1. Hi,

Once your products have been checked in at the fulfillment center, they will go live. You can check the status of your shipment in Seller Central. Usually, it takes longer than a week, especially this time of year.

  38. Hi Brian,

A couple questions. I think I’m confused about the ship from address. So you put in your home address and not the address of the UPS store you’re dropping off at? Or is that only if you are scheduling a pickup?

Also, what is the best way to figure out proper weight and measurements? I haven’t started selling yet and am feeling VERY intimidated by the whole process. A little worried about being in over my head here.

Just thought if one more. Is there a tool to figure out how/how much/when I need to pay in taxes?

    Thanks a bunch! 😀

    1. Hi Jill,

Yes, you put in your home address, even if you are dropping off at the UPS store. Don’t put the UPS store address.

The best way would be to get a digital scale to weigh the package and simply measure with a tape measure.

For any tax questions, I would consult with an accountant!

Let us know if you have more questions!

      -Brian

  39. Hi Brian

I want to ship jewelry to Amazon FBA’s in the US from the UK. One box contains a couple of units and the value is above $2500. Therefor if we send via normal courier (UPS/DHL/FedEX) it will require a formal entry with customs. If we send the goods as DDP (Duty and Taxes paid) will customs require anything from Amazon? Or is is just a straight forward process by providing a customs invoice etc.

  40. Great and thorough article! What would be the steps if I want to ship products directly to Amazon from the online store for example from Alibaba?

    1. Hi Sofia,

I suggest contacting a freight forwarder. Many can help you with this process of getting your products directly from your supplier to Amazon FBA.

  41. If I got my supplier to package my product how would I contact them and tell them to package it , when I print the labels can the supplier package the products the way Amazon want it and box it the way Amazon want it for them to ship it out

    1. Hi Mustafa,

Yes, your supplier should be able to do all of that. Not sure what you mean by how would you contact them.

    1. Hi Norma,

Amazon is partnered with UPS. You’ll be able to create the labels for them when creating the shipment in seller central

    1. Once your inventory is available in FBA, you can take advantage of multichannel fulfillment. Does this answer your question?

  42. Who do you recommend to act as the importer of record into Germany? I know that we need to have an Importer to put on the customs documents and commercial invoice…

  43. Hi,
Regarding duties and taxes. Who will handle this if I’m sending directly from my supplier to Amazon’s warehouse ?

  44. On sending to Amazon:
    1) Does it mean if i use the amazon partner carrier, the carrier will pick up from the “ship from address” even the address in in china?

    2) Do i still need amazon barcode even thou the item i selling already have a brand and barcode?

    Thanks

    1. Hi Pang,

      1. No, you will need to arrange the shipping from China into the US either with your supplier or a freight forwarder.

      2. Yes, you will still need the FNSKU, aka the Amazon barcode.

  45. I know you need your EAN number printed clearly on the outside of each individual unit, However if you have 100 units in one larger box/carton. Do you need a different barcode for this box. If I am selling goggles and I am selling 100 units/week. How much cover to I send to Amazon’s fulfilment centre? Do I send 1 week or 6 weeks cover of stock? Am I charged different costs?

    1. Hi Lucy,

You will need your FNSKU, or Amazon barcode, on each individual unit. You will just need your FBA inbound shipping label on the outer carton. That you will create in your FBA shipment plan in Seller Central. If you are selling 100 units/week, you should have at least 6 weeks of cover to account for delays at the FBA warehouses. One week at a time is not enough.

Check out our posts on Amazon FBA fees to get an understanding of the costs involved.

  46. Hi Brian,
Is there a way to estimate my shipping to Amazon fees for the FBA calculator? On my 1st order I was hit with an unexpected $120 shipping fee.. kinda throws of the profit a bit.

    Thanks
    Kevin

    1. Hi Kevin,

Who was the shipping fee from? Your supplier or Amazon? You need to get the shipping costs ahead of time from a supplier so you can be sure you are still profitable.

      1. Thanks for the response Brian, this was an extremely helpful article!

The shipping fee was from Amazon. I’m almost certainly doing something wrong as this is my 1st order. One problem was I had no idea where it was going until almost the final step in the Amazon shipping process.

          1. Hi Brian,
I thought i replied, but don’t see it?

So it was 5 cases each weighing 39.6 lbs containing 4 units, for a total of 20 units. They shipped from CA, and 2 went to FL, 1 went to PA, and 2 went to Ohio . I know it’s heavy..

            Thanks
            Kevin

            1. Hi Kevin,

Ah, I see. If they went all the way from CA to the east coast, that makes sense for such heavy items.

You can change your FBA shipment settings to have every unit sent to just one warehouse, called Inventory Placement Service. Though, there is a per-unit fee. Sounds like you may have oversized products so they may not allow that.

You can change that by going to settings > Fulfillment by Amazon > Inbound Settings. By default, Distributed Inventory Placement will be checked.

              1. Brian,
Thank you so much for all of the info!
One last question, is the only way to calculate shipping to Amazon to build an actual shipping plan with proper weights and dimensions and the delete it?

              2. Hi Kevin,

Yes, if you are using Amazon’s partnered carriers. You can also ship your items via LTL on pallets since they’re oversized and heavy. Your price will be cheaper going that route.

  47. Hi Brian, I followed step by step instructions on shipping to FBA warehouse. However I do not have the “calculate” option for shipment from my home town (Mexico) to Amazon´s designated warehouse in (IL). They gave me the option to print label to send to warehouse without knowing the cost on the shipment. No cost was given and I do not know what to consider in this.

    1. Hi Adrian,

That is odd. It may be because you are shipping from Mexico to the US. I would suggest contacting seller support to see if they can help you figure out the right way to do it.

  48. Hello- I’m representing my company spicy organic llc. We are getting ready to sell our organic spices , herbs and grains products on amazon under spicy organic brand.

    Couple of questions:

    1. Do I need to buy UPC code from GS1 to out it on a Amazon. we have about 25 products with three different sizes.
    2. Best way to send first shipment considering we don’t have UPC or any other number that can be put on a product packaging label. We have designed our product labels and ready to mass print them which is a huge cost. Do you suggest to print few packaging product label without UPC and once we get the UPC code or amazon assigned number, we can print them at bulk. We are confused with the UPC code that one can get from GS1 and other once from Amazon. Which one do we really to put on product packaging.

Thank you in advance for your help.

    Best Regards

    Linda Decann

    1. Hi Linda,

Your products will need a UPC code to be listed on Amazon. If you do not have a UPC, you can apply for what’s called a GTIN exemption. We have a post on that topic!

That will allow you to create your listing and send in inventory without a UPC code. Though, your products will need to be labeled with your Amazon barcode, aka FNSKU.

You can print those separately while creating your FBA shipment and label each of them individually. Alternatively, you can have Amazon label them for you at a cost.

      I hope this helps!

    1. Hi,

You will find that out once you create your shipment in seller central. Amazon will choose a warehouse based on your location and/or product demand in the country.

  49. Can you help me get to my first shipment? I’m still watching all the videos on the Seller University and need a lil guidance.

  50. Hi I just created a listing , it says inactive 0 inventory, also when I click the link it’s not there , I submitted my listing 3 hours ago , not sure what to do so I can send it out to fba?

    1. Hi Nicole,

If you did not yet send inventory to FBA, your inventory will remain at zero. If you see your listing in your “manage inventory” you can then send inventory into FBA.

  51. I wish to use my own freight company to ship from USA to an Amazon FBA in Germany .

Can you please confirm the method for this ?

It will likely be 20’ and 40’ containers .

    1. Hi Andrew,

I suggest reaching out to the freight company directly as they will know the process of shipping to Amazon.

  52. Hi Brian. Would like to see if I can speak you with you. A consultation would be great. I look forward to hearing back soon.

  53. Hello,

Thank you very much for the information. I watch all of your youtube videos and even bought the JungleScout tool!

I am in need of some help with my first shipment, I ordered 1000 units in 5 color variants before I knew of the 200 limit for new ASINS. If I were to ship 200 units by Air directly to FBA from China and the remaining inventory to my home in the US so I can replenish as needed. How would I go about creating a shipping plan(s)?

Thank you in advance for your help!

    1. Hi Kris,

Set the shipment up for just the 200 units you will be sending to FBA. Then, have your supplier ship the remaining inventory to your home. As you need to replenish inventory, the ship from address will then be from your home.

  54. Hi – Thank you so much for your content. I’m confused with a couple of things. First – if my product is already selling on Amazon and I use the ASIn will I also be allowed to use the images and product description or should I make my own??? Second, on prep, if there is already a bar code on the item do I cover this up with a new one thats generated after listing??? These two things have really held me back on even attempting to list a product!!

    Many thanks

    1. Hi Sam,

Is the product you’re trying to sell a private label product or retail arbitrage/wholesale? If it is a private label, do not list it on someone else’s listing. You should create your own listing with your own UPC code. If it is an arbitrage product that you are reselling, you should list it on the listing already on Amazon.

If the product has a UPC barcode on the product already, Amazon may allow you to use the manufacturer’s barcode but we recommend covering that with your own unique FNSKU and cover the UPC. Youll be prompted to print the FNSKUs barcodes during your shipment creation.

      I hope this helps!

      Brian

  55. Hi

    Good article, thank you.

How do you ship direct from manufacturer (once you trust them) to Amazon. Is that an option please ?

    Best regards
    John

  56. Thank you for the great article! If the item in the box is “ready to ship” does it require such sticker / label on the outside of the box? The item I am sending is packed in styrofoam. Thank you!

    1. You can pack all of your items into one large box for Amazon. Amazon will place the individual item into a shipping box or envelope when you receive an order.

  57. Hello!

Thank you for the information. Do you need a freight forwarder if you are shipping air from Alibaba? Also, Do you need a UPC as well as an FNsku? For example, if I am purchasing a non-branded item from Alibaba, do I need to purchase the UPC for the manufacturer to label?

    Thank you in advance!
    Jasmina Menkovic

    1. Hi Jasmina,

If you are shipping by air, you do not typically need a freight forwarder unless you are doing air fright.

Amazon requires each product to have a UPC. If you do not have one, you can apply for GTIN exemption with Amazon.

The most important barcode to have on your packaging would be the FNSKU.
